ABSTRACT

AlM:To evaluate the expression of transcriptional factor lslet-1 in retina in experimental retinal neovascularization induced by oxygen. METHODS: The murine retinal neovascularization were induced by hyperoxia exposure. The morphological observation of retinal neovascularization was performed using angiography by fluorescein dextran injection under the fluorescence microscope, and the new blood vessels were quantified after 5d in room air (17-day-old) by counting the vascular epithelial cell nuclei protruding into viteous cavity using HE stain. Realtime PCR and Western blot were used to examine retinal lslet-1 level in postnatal 7,12, 14,17 and 26d respectively. RESULTS: A lots of new blood vessels were demonstrated in the mouse retina in hyperoxic group by fluorescein angiography and histological method. Moreover, no significant difference was found in retinal lslet-1 level in postnatal 7d between hyperoxic group and control group, but was significantly higher in postnatal 12, 14 and 17d mice compared with control mice. However, mice at postnatal 26d, expression of lslet-1 in retina decreased to normal level. CONCLUSlON: ln processing mouse model of retinal neovascularization, sustained hypoxia retinal tissue induce retinal neovascularization by increas the expression of transcription factor lslet-1.

ABSTRACT

AlM:To compare the differences of tilt and decentration of two aspheric posterior chamber intraocular lens ( PC-lOL) implantation by ultrasonic biomicroscope ( UBM) .METHODS:Thirty-seven patients ( 45 eyes ) underwent cataract surgery were distributed to two groups randomly. Group A was implanted with Akreos AO ( Bausch &Lomb; four-haptic ) while group B implanted with ZCB00 ( Abbott Medical Optics, lnc. AMO; two-haptic) . All eyes underwent standard phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation. Diameter of capsulotomy was recorded. One month postoperatively, vision, best-corrected visual acuity ( BCVA) assessment, slit lamp examination, and anterior chamber depth ( ACD ) measured by UBM were performed. Tilt and decentration were measured horizontally and vertically, and total tilt and decentration were calculated by geometry method. RESULTS:No statistical difference was found in BCVA and diameter of capsulotomy between two groups ( P>0. 05). The mean ACD of group A and group B were 3. 86mm ± 0. 31mm and 4. 14mm ± 0. 31mm respectively, which showed it had statistically significant difference ( P0. 05).CONCLUSlON:Two-haptic lOL shows no difference in tilt and decentration with four-haptic lOL postoperatively.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the Methods , complication and operative skill in transconjunctival surgical cryoextraction of intraconal orbital cavernous hemangioma.@*METHODS@#Among the 41 patients diagnosed as orbital cavernous hemangioma preoperatively, 36 suitable for the condition were treated with the operation. The operation time was recorded, and the complications were observed during and after the operation.@*RESULTS@#The tumours of the 36 patients were all excised successfully, of which 35 were diagnosed as orbital cavernous hemangioma, and the other 1 as neurilemoma post-operatively. The operation time of each was 20 to approximately 25 min and there was no perpetual complications.@*CONCLUSION@#Transconjunctival surgical cryoextraction of intraconal orbital cavernous hemangioma is simple, swift, safe and effective with tiny injury.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the clinical manifestation and pathological features of primary ocular adnexal non-Hodgkin lymphoma.@*METHODS@#Data of 18 patients with biopsy-proven ocular adnexal non-Hodgkin lymphoma at Xiangya hospital were reviewed. The disease site, clinical manifestation, imaging and pathological features of the tumor were summarized.@*RESULTS@#All patients had typical presentation of an adnexal mass.Twelve(66.7%) patients had orbital involvement, 3(16.7%) had conjunctival, and 3(16.7%) had lymphoma involving the eyelids.Eight patients were misdiagnosed as "inflammatory pseudotumour" before the operation according to their clinical and imaging examination, another 8 patients were diagnosed as "ocular adnexal tumour with unknown nature" before the operation. According to the pathologic diagnosis, 16 patients (88.9%)had marginal zone lymphomas of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MZL-MALT) and 2 (11.1%) had NK/T-cell lymphoma.@*CONCLUSION@#The typical presentation of ocular adnexal lymphoma is a painless mass.Orbital connective tissue is the most involved anatomical site. The diagnosis of ocular adnexal non-Hodgkin lymphoma is difficult which could easily be misdiagnosed as "inflammatory pseudotumour". MZL-MALT is the most common pathologic type.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the effect of form-deprivation on level of gelatinase in the posterior sclera in chicks.@*METHODS@#Fifty 1-day-old chicks were monocularly deprived to establish the animal model of form-deprivation myopia (FDM). According to the duration of form-deprivation the experimental chicks were divided randomly and equivalently into 5 groups, which were deprived for 3, 7, 14, 21 and 30 days respectively. Meanwhile the other eyes of the deprived chicks were used as self-control groups and chicks of the same days were chosen randomly as the normal control groups for each FDM group. At each form-deprivation point the changes of degree of diopters and axial length of chicks in each group were recorded. The levels of gelatinase in posterior sclera of the experimental eyes were measured by gelatin enzymography.@*RESULTS@#Compared with the normal and self-control groups, the levels of MMP-2 activity in FDM groups were much higher (P <0.01). With the increase of the time of monocular deprivation these changes became more significant and reached the top after 14 days' deprivation with an inter-group statistical difference (P <0.01). The dynamic changes of MMP-2 activity were the same as those of axial length and degree of diopters in each experimental groups. There was positive correlation between the MMP-2 activity and axial length (r = 0.989, P < 0.01). But there was a negative correlation between the MMP-2 activity and refractive degree.@*CONCLUSION@#Increase of MMP-2 activity in the posterior sclera of chicks would be a direct key factor to trigger sclera ECM remodeling process in chick FDM.
